Ouch!!

OMG! OMG!! OMG!!!
There's this pain that I've been feeling in the joint of my big toe, I had always thought that the pain was probably from some old injury that I might have sustained and forgotten. So when I was over at my parent's on Sunday, I casually mentioned about the pain in the toe to my dad, and the first thing that he said was "You've got Gout."
I was like HUH?!!!! It sounded like some rocky hard substance this Gout, I don't think I'd have lived long enough to have something like that yet. And when did my dad got so definitively confident about identifying pain of this nature??
So I was like Huh?!Huuh??! You're sure???
He nonchalantly told me to go look it up in the dictionary, LOL.
I did, but I used Google instead *bleah* and OMG! it's true!! I'm going to die!!

LOL! Correction, I won't die from Gout but I'll be feeling the painful toe a lot more, if I don't do something about it. It is literally a pain in the toe, funny thing is I only feel it when I am visiting them, LOL!

Anyone else out there having a pain in the toe too?

monologue

love and misery loves company
a relationship that should leave a legacy of love
is turning into a monument to misery
death might have been easier to understand

walking down crowded sidewalks alone
in a quick pace as I always go
perhaps to guise a sense of purpose
no not perhaps
to elude attention
stick to familiar roads
paid no attention to alternate routes

funny how it is when misery finds company
this is also a road of solitude
I thought you were by my side, as always
but nothing was there
where have you gone

all roads are connected
perhaps we might cross paths
not the road you take
no matter what the name
its the person you walk it with

People

There are all kinds of people in this world, but i shall not condemn. You be the judge.

First up -
How could they make fun of such a tragedy?
Radio station pulls show over tsunami slur.
More details on what actually happened can be found on "angry asian man" scroll down to the 01.22.05 entry to have a look at the song's tasteless lyrics.

Just earlier today -
Eleven people were killed and more than 180 injured when a commuter train smashed into a car left on a crossing by a suicidal man, derailed and crashed into another train.

Lastly -
A little something that would keep you thinking.
A porn star is now hawking "moan tones". For US$2.50 mobile phone users can choose from a variety of moans, and sexual noises.
The first thing that came to my mind when I first saw her photo was, whoa!! ewwww! is that an adam's apple?? I'm sure with a throat that thick the sound effects must be real low and bass(ly) lolz. Also, check out the colours of the eyes @_@

Dying young

If I keep up with my current lifestyle, I might not get to die young.

And according to 'The Death Test', I'd most probably live till an old and feeble age of 80 years old. Finally I'd probably have a 56% chance of getting a heart attack that will end it all, 24% chance of dying in a car accident and most probably 13% chance from dying of loneliness.

Apparently if the survey is accurate, I have 16740.6 days left to squeeze out of this life. And I have already lived 43% of my life, so mid-life crisis if there's any, should be happening soon.

Close to you

It's was a sunny & quiet weekend, I've been trying to get my bicycle fixed since one of the tires blew but I've been having rotten luck everytime I try to bring it to the shop to get it fixed - they're closed for the day *rotten timing*.

Anyway when bad things happens, it's always easier to see good in everything else. Recently I've found a few aphorisms about living that I should do good to remember.
- accept what you are able to do and what you are not able to do
- accept the past as the past, without denying it or discarding it
- learn to forgive yourself and to forgive others
- don't assume that it's too late to get involved

I am currently in a dilema over chasing a dream or trading it for prospects of a bigger paycheck. Then be all wrapped up in a siren song of materialism... so many people seemed to be chasing dreams, does it all add up to a meaningful life?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up early today, in fact so early that the full moon is still hung well above the twilight horizon (for those who must know, it's abt 45º above the horizon). The soft pale light from the moon have been rather bright these few nights, and it always shine thru my windows and illuminate the drawn white translucent curtains that I have put up. Loved those curtains, gives a dreamy effect and I find it rather nice when it gets caught in a slight breeze and flutters lightly.

The time is 5am, I had to drag myself out of bed grab breakfast then there's a train to catch. It's actually quite refreshing to wake up this early, it's been a long time since I had felt the morning air cool and fresh. In fact, I was running a little late so I had to do a skip and hop to the train station but I hardly broke a sweat. ^_^

Tomorrow's gonna be the same again, good thing I caught some snooze on the trip back home so maybe I can jump into bed a little later tonight, cause tonight's the first night "Desperate Housewives" is airing on local TV *grin*

I find this a rather heart warming song :) it's not a recent release, but I've only just found the lyrics :)
For my new found friends that are not mandarin speaking, I shall attempt to explain the lyrics in the song for u :P
This is only loosely translated as best as i could, so if anyone can give me a better translation, pls do ^_^"
So here it is -

I give you my good night, as companion for your breakfast
Remember to save up all the pining
I looked to the havens full of stars twinkling
And I heard the 'cow herd' tell the 'fairy on the moon' to be brave (this phrase here is part of a chinese folk lore)

Do not worry about us being on both end of the earth
(I can't quite get this part, a little off but should go something like so)
I ask the immortal monkey to spread a magical blanket
Fly as fast as light to your side, to show you that even the Southern Cross have the North Star for companion

Are you getting used to not having my arm as your pillow?
Your telescope would not see the loneliness of the Northern Hemisphere where I am
The Pacific Ocean's tide is revolving with the Earth, going back and forth
I will wait patiently and welcome you when you approach the shore

Are you getting used to not having my warm embrace that you've gotten so familiar with?
Send you pictures but you'll not see my loneliness at the Northern Hemisphere
Even if the world is any bigger, true hearts will eventually be rekindled
Longing will not keep us apart as I give you all my dreams for safe keeping

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am still trying to find the song's mp3, if you really want to see all the songs in the album or see the album cover art click here. To listen to the song, u can click on the mandarin lyrics.

The feeling of love can be a powerful inspiration, even if it's only through a song - may love be with u

Makeup for Men

gaultierIf Jean Paul Gaultier had his way, drag queens wouldn’t be the only men to wear makeup regularly. The designer has launched Le Male Tout Beau, a way-beyond-metrosexual collection of tinted lip balms, bronzer powder and other cosmetics for guys. Which is set to take pride of place in every ardent metrosexual's bathroom.

And if regular guys do start embracing Gaultier's cosmetic vision as well, we'd all be seeing lotsa “Pirates of the Caribbean” Johnny Depp lookalikes. *ewwww*

Looking over at the recent Golden Globe's red carpet event, I see a few of my favourite actresses - Natalie Portman, Claire Danes, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Garner... hmmm quite a few more...

Can't say much for Natalie's and Claire's choices of designer wear though (but Claire's sleek blonde tresses is nice with a polished and uptown look) :P
natalie claire

The only exception would be the elegant midnight-blue silk and satin Christian Dior couture empress gown by John Galliano on Charlize, and also Jennifer's sizzling attention-grabbing red vintage Valentino gown.
charlize jennifer

Other great designers I noticed, Carolina Herrera's sleek dress on Renee Zellweger have that demure vintage elegance look (pic not here). Also Vera Wang's soft rose satin gown on, best actress for drama series, Mariska Hargitay looking perfectly elegant. Finally, on Teri Hatcher the winner of best actress in a comedy series, a silver and satiny Donna Karan halter gown. Fantastic use of fabric and mix, elegant and stunning.

I should have gone into fashion when I was younger, but then again I liked it too much to turn it into a job :P

Moonlight Lady

had a hard time taking this photo of the moon

The moon is out as I gazed out my kitchen's window it is well pass midnight but there is something enchanting about the moon tonight, so I dug out my camera and captured the moon. There was a time when I could snug up close and whisper into someone's ears that the mystic moon is low on the horizon. Instead on this night, I whisper here to you as you hear it in your mind, the voice that you chose to hear, over thousands of miles across great distances of ocean and mountains - the moon is beautiful tonight, there's only one moon in the magical night and though you are not here with me, we're still under the same moonlit night. And if you see the moon tomorrow as well, you'll know I feel the same way too.

I remembered this song from long ago, you would like it too - Moonlight Lady

There were beggars and kings
In a magical sky
There were wings in the air
And I learned how to fly.
There was me, there was you
In a world made for two, then you were gone.

chorus

Every night is so empty without you
I'm so lonely since you went away
If by chance we could dance to the music
Let it play,
Let me say...

Moonlight lady
Come along with me
To the bright city lights,
It's all right, 'cause tonight's on me.
Moonlight lady
Come along with me
To the bright city lights,
It's all right, 'cause tonight's on me.

Have a good night and sweet dreams.

Sin City

sin_city5_posterI'm soooo excited, I just saw the trailer for a new movie on the quicktime site - Sin City.

The cinematography is sooo über excellent!!
Sin City is the creation of Frank Miller, whose style of illustration is centuries ahead of his time, when he first created the Sin City comic. It's a low-key, starkly contrasting graphic form of illustration that I'm still v. in awe with. You can also get to see a picture of him on the site, if you click on the link.

Back to the movie trailer, it's excellent!! And I expect Sin City to be much better than Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow which had a really horrible story, even the great cast and retro style cinematography can't save it from damnation *puit* good thing I watched it free ^_^ I think I fell asleep halfway thru the movie too, muhahahaha!!
At least Sin City the movie would be based on a strong character and story foundation. Another plus would be the über cool cast of Jessica Alba (Dark Angel, Honey), Rosario Dawson (MIB2, Alexander), Elijah Wood (LOTR, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Maria Bello (Coyote Ugly, Duets) and finally the super Bruce Willis (you should know, lol) and that's just naming a few, Josh Hartnett is in it too heartthrob for many girls I'm sure ^_^

Can't wait for its local release! I'll have to just watch the trailer again... watch the trailer and you'll know what I mean. This is one movie I'm gonna add to my DVD collection.

Eye can see you

There's something for everythingThis is one big advert on the side of a bus this morning, it seems there's something for everything. So now people won't get confused as to which eye drops to use, least they have to consult a GP. I wonder where the computer eye is hidden ^_^

Heard that our local GPs are not doing too well, at least those that are not already assimilated into a syndication, so we should help our GPs out even though there have been recent allegations about sub-curative dosages prescribed by doctors, deliberately and for profit. Which according to the relevent statutory authority is not true until proven otherwise. But I only have this for the accuser, if I can't trust the GP to cure me of my ailments, who do I turn to then?

Golden Globes ^_^

Been watching a comedy series late Monday nites for a while now, Arrested Development, it really quite a good laugh.

So I guess its only natural that it is again getting nominated for the 62nd Golden Globes, after having already won like 5 Emmys.
Given out by the 93-member Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Globes are often seen as a predictor of major wins at the Oscars.

The other top contender Desperate Housewives is the show to beat, having been nominated for five awards, including three out of the five slots in the best actress category - Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher.

Teri Hatcher, that's a name I've not heard for a long long time the last I remembered was Louis & Clark. She still looks good from the trailers that I've seen, it could just be very good anti-wrinkle cream or some Nip/Tuck & botox.

*GRIN* so like I said, just saw the trailer for Desperate Housewives, and it would be on TV from nxt Monday ^_^ more laughs for Mondays.

Stripperella on Central

Nothing much happened today and didn't have much on my mind, just one of those days past me by...

StripperrllaSaw a trailer on TV introducing a new animation series for late nites, starting next Monday on Central at 11pm. Stan Lee's Stripperella! Ha!! He's also the man who brought us such popular superheroes as Spider-Man and The X-Men. Here's a new kind of superhero and Pamela Anderson provides the voice of Erotica Jones who is stripper by night and superhero Stripperella by even later at night.

Actually this animation series not new, it's just that when it was all the rage - that was when people were still impressed by Pamela, those in power who regulated programmes for free-to-air channels (in Singapore) deem content of this nature not appropriate for the wholesome myopic society at that time, themselves included.

Anyway, now that this animation is finally having its due glory to grace our screen (Not that its a great piece of work in any sense) I supposed people are beginning to be alittle more tolerant. Especially so when "Sex and The City - Season 5" only just gotten clean of censors after a five-year ban* and fianlly got approval to air last year, on cable TV. *(Not juz Season 5, it's the whole HBO series)

Anyway, here's some background on Stripperella - she has the ability to float to safety from tall distances courtesy of her enhanced hair. She also have her patented move Scissor-ella which allows her to knock-out bad guys with her thighs (think Famke Jannsen as Xenia Onatopp in the James Bond film Goldeneye). If you touch her breasts there's a gadget there that works as a lie detector and tells Stripperella if someone is lying when they touch it. But the most outragous gadget at her disposal would be the digital scanner placed under her tongue which she can use to upload pictures to a computer.

Clearly we should be expecting sex and campy humor.
Clearly we're getting it.

Did mother nature just sneeze?!

One headline today, reads - Reno area hit by heaviest snowfall in nearly 90 years. OMG! Reno!! I've almost forgotten all about this place, it is one of the more memorable place I visited since I last went there in 2001, Lake Tahoe is OoH so breathtaking, Aah so much good memories...

Back to today's natural disasters -
Experts are saying that this is the most snow to fall over the Reno-Lake Tahoe area since 1916. Major highways across the Sierra between Reno and Sacramento were closed, including Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

Northern Europe weathers worst storm in 40 years, strong winds and heavy rain swept across northern Europe from Ireland to Russia during the weekend, leaving at least 14 dead, flooding parts of Britain and affecting air and sea transport.

Storms also caused flooding in southern California and Arizona, deadly avalanches in Utah and ice damage and flooding in the Ohio Valley.

Heavy rains unleash mudslide in California, the mudslide was the worst disaster to date caused by the storms that have been battering southern California since last week.

Wildfires kill 5 in southern Australia's Eyre Peninsula, about 400 kilometers west of Adelaide, was the worst of several wildfires reported around the state, where temperatures have topped 44 degrees Celsius in recent days.
____________________________________________

The world is going through some drastic changes laterly, it's like mother nature have decided to have a new hairdo. Recent disasters, all seems like a mellowed down version of the Hollywood exaggeration - The Day after Tomorrow.

These recent devastation from mother nature seems to be indicative of some major changes, hopefully someone is already onto it and can keep us informed.

Looking back, since the last heatwave that had swept across the whole of Europe and parts of US in Aug '04. One year before in 2003, the heatwave that hit France killed an estimated 15,000 people, also hit the US Midwest damaging the corn and soya crops. In 1995, 739 people died in a heatwave that broiled Chicago.

Around the sametime (Aug '04), scientists with the Oregon State University, are worried about evidential events that's tipping the very balance of the ecosystem. They are currently doing a 40 year oceangraphy to track natural Dead Zone occurance, somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.

There's also the Category 4 storm that hit Florida in August, a stronger-than-expected Hurricane Charley. Initially expected to strike as a Category 2 storm, but was upgraded as it approached the coast. State governor, Jeb Bush had to declare a state of emergency and asked his brother, President George W. Bush, to declare a federal state of emergency as well.

Over in China, BeiJing still Aug '04. A deadly earthquake struck and opened cracks in walls of several reservoir dams that could collapse, nearly 600 people injured and more than 125,000 left homeless in Ludian county in Yunnan province by the earthquake, which measured 5.6 on the Richter scale.

Flash floods sweep through UK villages (Aug '04), heavy rain caused flash floods in seaside communities in southwestern England. Flooding began after rained for 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon, around the Boscastle area of Cornwall.

A month before (July '04), BBC reported that scientists have observed the biggest raindrops recorded on earth estimated to be a whopping 1cm in size, these were recorded over Brazil and the Marshall Islands, in the central Pacific Ocean regions. Average drops of rain are between 1mm and 2mm in dia- meter. The previous largest drops recorded - 8mm wide, over Hawaii - were reported in 1986.

If we can't depend on anyone to keep us informed, perhaps it's time we start listening and learning from nature's children - the wildlife around us.

Himalayan Griffon VultureThis just in - A Himalayan Griffon Vulture first spotted over the weekend in the Orchard Road area was found exhausted and brought to the Jurong Bird Park on Tuesday where it is recuperating. A native to Central Asia, the creature is one of the world's largest birds with a wingspan of up to 4m and native to Central Asia.

My take on this - Did the vulture flew here in search of a safer nesting place? Perhaps this bird brain really knows more than we think we do.

Carpe Diem?!

When I was young like many my age, I held a constant wish to be all grown up quickly, but for reasons I can quite recall now. This could either be because I've already have had the chance to experince it and it turned out not quite what I've imagined it to be or that it no longer have any significant meaning to my life.

Now that I'm older, I wonder if there's much time left to enjoy life and see the rest of the world, this would have been one of my reason for growing up quick. Or at the very least, to leave behind a legacy that I could be remembered by, instead of just some mundane inscription on a stone tablet or urn of ash.

Tonight's just one of those nites when it creeps up on me to re-evaluate my life and the values I held. Well, at least there's no timer that I'm aware of, that's ticking away loudly. Tomorrow would be another day of compounded interest. (I am hoping that I'd be able to have my first photography exhibition soon, at least in my lifetime.)

Martha Focker

Was out on a movie date Wednesday nite.
So i was a little distracted and missed bloggin yesterday.
It's been a while since I went on a date with someone I just barely gotten to know, and I must say I'm not too sure I was a good date. Perhaps I should keep off going out on dates till I've sorted out my "emotional luggage" first.

The movie was hilarious though, "Meet the Fockers" the sequal to "Meet the parents". During most part of the show I was quite distracted by my date's light scent, drifting over. While the rest of the time, I was just painfully conscious of how I sound, laughing out, so it was erm... quite an experience. Should have opt to go watch Ocean's 12 instead, oh well.

Quiet resolution - no more laugh-your-head-off movie dates for now... ever. At least not until I've perfected my laugh to sound exactly like so - MUHaHaHahAhAha... ^_^"

Diggin up the dead

The local news is still very much focused on the Tsunami disaster.

One thing that I noticed is the way the dead were buried, most probably due to the humidity and heat in these areas, the bodies of the dead were deteriorating fast. Images of bodies stuffed into plastic bags dumped into mass burial grounds dug out by bulldozer got me rather depress... somehow the dead were not treated with much dignity or any degree of respect, being packed in plastic bags (black trash type) and then just dumped into a land fill...

still can't let go

Today, I've strained myself with some personal anguish and fustration that's too incoherent for me to explain. Mostly pent-up emotions over issues from last year that was not resolved. I wished I was there when the earth opened up, right now I just need to distract myself from this hurt with some anger, distraction or brain dead activities. I need some KitKat too.

This is my one, major life altering event.

Brochure from Las Vegas

As mentioned in my previous post, here's the brochure scanned for your viewing pleasure. ^_^"

Monday, January 03, 2005

I would like to see you work harder this year...

Already the days are flying by, the first weekend of the year are already over! Boohoohoo!! For most, today would have been the first work day of the year... that's what I thought, thinking that noone should have to work weekends. And you know I'm sooo wrong?... yah yah those people servicing us at the shopping centres and cinema theatres are actually WORKing *gasp!!* hope they enjoy the work.

So talk about working, anyone out there works in "Sin City" Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps? Had only been there once, 4 years ago while I was working in California. Drove all the way to Las Vegas from SF, it was a long drive even with the accelerator floored throughout the drive (I think it was a Ford Mustang GT we drove). Driving to Las Vegas at night is quite an experience and trust me you don't want to do the driving in the day, LV is right in the middle of desert land.

So when up ahead in the night you see a city of lights, you know you're getting nearer. There's one thing that'll hit you right in the face when you take your first step out of your car, after a long long drive in air-conditioned comfort. First you would have noticed that there's a strong breeze blowing around outside, then WHAM! the freaking breeze is HOT air! All pun intended.

Las Vegas is so full of it, nice lights that is and all things sinful and I'm not just talking about the gambling. Will show pictures later, watch this space. Heh! muahaha!! I had actually spent time thinking what kinda lifestyle it'd be like working in Sin City. So it's a good thing there's a show with the same namesake with lots of eye candy for everyone, including some sexy curves compliments of Molly Sims & Nikki Fox.

In the meantime, don't hold your breath it might just keep you looking younger. But that's another topic for another day.

The first day of the year

The Tsunami incident is still all over the news, a 32-car convoy of Land Rovers from Singapore headed for Thailand to deliver aid and assistance for the Tsunami victims, have met with an accident and the lead driver of the convoy is now dead, his co-driver a private teacher, escaped with minor injuries. The rest of the 60 members forged ahead, towards Krabi in southern Thailand to deliver the aid.

Sad news aside, Evelyn Tan gave birth to a baby boy for Darren (both were formerly Channel U artiste), there’s also supposed to be another New Year’s day baby that is born the same time on the first day of the New Year, at the stroke of midnight. Just can’t beat having celebrity parents though, you don't get as much air time coverage on the news. Ha!

So with the new year comes new changes, one less TV channel on air too… need to get used to not seeing Channel i’s transmission anymore. Today is the first day it offically goes off air and MediaCorp officially takes over all of MediaWorks free-to-air operations and once again monopolise TV programming in Singapore.

In view of the Tsunami and all this money raised for the affected countries, the current prime minister is looking to start an Asian Disaster Fund (kinda like an insurance policy thingy), at a conference sometime this month. Personally I think, someone feels that some of these countries might be getting too much money already… or that perhaps the aid distribution is not equally distributed or something... just my little conspiracy theory there, so don't quote me, ya? On the other hand, I don't think that whatever amount raised would be enough to help every one of the affected countries. There's homes to be rebuilt for the people, and there's also the rebuilding of their tourist beach resort that got wiped out which is the lifelihood from which the people and country's economy made a living.

Beyond that, I am hoping that maybe most of the missing Singaporeans would be found so that the companies that employ them do not have to put out ads to help lower the current unemployment rate here. Or even tempt me into applying for a job that I might be interested in that’s probably got an opening because someone’s not at work… hmmm contradictions.

Oh, humm its a New Year like every year that was before. It seems an awfully long time to wait, for just one sweeping moment. Anyway 2005's gonna have lotsa long weekends ahead at least in Singapore we do. Gotta start planning and marking down those dates, save some money, go nearby beach resorts for the holiday.

Whatever it is, have a safe 2005 and live life like there's no tomorrow.
